I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving tomorrow. Instead of watching football, re-watch the 2016 World Series.
- The non-tender deadline is this Monday and here is one player for each team that may not be offered a new contract by then.
- Now that Yasmani Grandal has signed with the White Sox, Jon Paul Morosi predicts which top free agent will sign next.
- Michael Shapiro ranks the top five possible destinations for free agent third baseman Anthony Rendon.
- Dayn Perry writes that while every team needs Gerrit Cole, the Angels need him the most.
- David Schoenfield tries to predict what the Yankees can realistically expect to accomplish this off-season.
- MLB is investigating free agent reliever Sam Dyson after an accusation of domestic abuse made on social media by his former girlfriend. (The Athletic sub. req., but you can read the posts here.)
- Several minor league cities and politicians are fighting back against MLB’s plan to contract the minor leagues.
- A current presidential candidate weighed in on Minor League contraction as well.
- Ben Clemens and Meg Rowley figure out just how many people would lose access to baseball if this plan goes through.
- Minor League Baseball announced that they have hired the Octagon sports agency to sell their media rights. Currently, MiLB sells the rights to their games to MLB, but that could now change. As long as the price of Milb.tv doesn’t go up, that’s fine with me.
- Sheryl Ring has an interview with Rachel Luba, who is the new agent of Reds pitcher Trevor Bauer.
- Ken Rosenthal speaks with the doctor at the center of the Yankees’ dispute with Jacoby Ellsbury and reports that the doctor claims he never treated him for any baseball-related injury. (The Athletic sub. req.)
- Mike Axisa has two more moves the Braves need to make to get to the World Series in 2020.
- Jay Jaffe has one proposed move for teams that just missed the playoffs last year (ESPN+ sub. req.) that could get them in this year. I present this because it’s a slow news day, but there is no way the Cubs are going to trade Kyle Schwarber and Tyler Chatwood to the Diamondbacks for Robbie Ray and Steven Souza Jr.
- Many people have criticized the six-year deal that Mariners minor leaguer Evan White signed this past week, but Tom Verducci thinks that the Mariners are taking on all the risk here.
- The Mariners have signed former Cubs pitcher Kendall Graveman to a one-year, $2 million deal. Former Iowa Cubs pitcher, at least.
- The Diamondbacks have signed catcher Stephen Vogt to a one-year, $3 million deal.
- The Phillies signed infielder Josh Harrison to a minor-league deal.
- The Astros signed catcher Dustin Garneau to a one-year deal.
- Free agent pitcher Rich Hill underwent surgery and won’t be able to pitch until mid-season. That might be a career for Hill.
- Dan Szymborski notes that the Athletics are no longer the Moneyball team. Now the A’s are the Moneyglove team.
- The Twins are bringing back their baby blue uniforms as an alternate jersey. I’m old enough to remember when teams got rid of the pastel-colored uniforms of the seventies and eighties to great applause. Now they’re bringing them all back to great applause.
- And finally, Spink Award-winning writer Jayson Stark presents his “best of the decade” awards. (The Athletic sub. req.) Are the teens over already?
And tomorrow will be a better day than today, Buster. Because it will be Thanksgiving. Have a happy holiday and I’m thankful for all of my readers.
