ESPN Sunday Night Baseball adds another Cubs game

ESPN announced Friday that the Cubs game in Washington against the Nationals Sunday, May 19 has been added to its slate of games for the Sunday Night Baseball franchise.

That will make three consecutive Sunday nights for the Cubs, as they will play on SNB Sunday, May 5 against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field and also Sunday, May 12 against the Brewers at Wrigley.

Generally, teams are limited to five appearances per season on SNB by the terms of the national network TV contracts with MLB, and they had previously been scheduled to appear there Sunday, June 16 vs. the Dodgers at Los Angeles and Sunday, August 18 vs. the Pirates at Williamsport, Pennsylvania in this year’s Little League Classic.

Thus unless some waiver is received, those will be the five games where the Cubs will appear on the SNB telecast with Matt Vasgersian, Jessica Mendoza and Alex Rodriguez. A reminder that in 2019, Sunday Night Baseball games on ESPN will begin at 6 p.m. CT, an hour earlier than in previous years.

Other Cubs games scheduled to appear on ESPN so far this year are Sunday, March 31 at the Rangers, and Monday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 3 at the Braves. Those game are non-exclusive to ESPN and will also appear on a Chicago TV channel. The Cubs have yet to announce their local broadcast schedule for 2019.
