Cubs vs. Giants at Scottsdale preview, Sunday 2/24, 2:05 CT

The Cubs will be seeing a couple innings worth of MadBum today.

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

Oscar De La Cruz pitched the ninth inning in Mesa Saturday.

Addison Russell is in today’s starting lineup.

Both players are under suspension for the start of the regular season and currently on the restricted list. I had thought that players on the restricted list couldn’t play in regular major-league spring training games and would be limited to playing in minor-league spring games, but based on the above two statements, that does not appear to be the case.

I would think the Cubs might limit Russell to appearing in games away from Sloan Park (such as today’s), given possible negative fan reaction in home games. We’ll see.

Here are today’s particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Almora CF, Happ 2B, Rizzo 1B, Schwarber LF, Russell SS, Bote 3B, Caratini C, Zagunis RF, Hannemann DH

Giants lineup:

Panik 2B, Parra LF, Longoria 3B, Belt 1B, Crawford DH, Hanson SS, Ferguson CF, Rivera C, Ramos RF

Tyler Chatwood will start for the Cubs. Other pitchers scheduled for the Cubs today: Dillon Maples, James Norwood, Allen Webster, Dakota Mekkes and Duncan Robinson.

Madison Bumgarner will go for the Giants.

Today’s game is on 670 The Score. No TV today. Gameday

Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn’t usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.

Here is the complete Mediacenter for today.

Please visit our SB Nation Giants site McCovey Chronicles. If you do go there to interact with Giants fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

For spring-training games, we’ll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 2 p.m. CT and 3:30 p.m. CT.

These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked ”Chicago Cubs Game Threads” at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Day.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
