David Bote, as you see below, is back in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s game. He’s thankful that he avoided a concussion when he was hit in the head by Madison Bumgarner on Sunday:
“We went through all the correct things,” Bote said. “I’m not in concussion protocol. There’s no concussion. But we went through many, many, many tests. I’m thankful for the Giants’ medical staff, as well as our medical staff.
”They did a thorough, thorough job. I’m like, ‘Hey, I’m good, guys. Let’s go.’ The Cubs and the Giants have done nothing but state-of-the-art process. Madison called me after the game to apologize. Then he texted me again the next morning. He’s an ultimate pro. He definitely does not have to do that. But he did, and it means a lot.”
Bote is an important part of this team and is likely going to get a lot of playing time early while Addison Russell is serving his suspension.
I’m not going to this one, so I’ll follow the audio broadcast along with you.

Today’s game is on cubs.com. No TV today.
Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn’t usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.
Please visit our SB Nation Rangers site Lone Star Ball. If you do go there to interact with Rangers fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
For spring-training games, we’ll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 2 p.m. CT and 3:30 p.m. CT.
These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked ”Chicago Cubs Game Threads” at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Day.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
