Cubs vs. Reds at Goodyear preview, Monday 3/4, 2:05 CT

The Cubs head to the west Valley for a matchup against a divisional rival.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

A few notes from spring training so far:

  • The Cubs’ 68 runs scored are third-most in the Cactus League behind the Angels (82) and Royals (76).
  • Cristhian Adames leads the Cactus League with a .471 batting average (8-for-17), tied for the lead in hits (8) and fourth in OPS (1.180) … Mark Zagunis is tied for the Cactus League lead with nine RBI.
  • Trent Giambrone’s 15 total bases are tied for seventh in the Cactus League.
  • Kyle Schwarber’s eight walks lead the Cactus League while Jacob Hannemann’s five walks are tied for fifth.

Just as the Cubs don’t really care for the long ride to Goodyear (and Cole Hamels, whose turn it is today, won’t be making it), I don’t either. I’m skipping this one and will listen to the webcast along with all of you.

Here are today’s particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Almora CF, Descalso 2B, Baez SS, Caratini C, Zagunis RF, Adduci 1B, Court 3B, Evans LF, Higgins DH

Reds lineup:

Winker LF, Gennett 2B, Puig DH, Suarez 3B, Schebler CF, Dietrich 1B, Peraza SS, Barnhart C, Siri RF

Alec Mills will start for the Cubs. Cubs relievers this afternoon (in alphabetical order): Craig Brooks, Oscar De La Cruz, Brian Duensing, George Kontos, Randy Rosario and Allen Webster.

Tony Santillan is today’s Reds starting pitcher. Other Reds scheduled this afternoon: Michael Lorenzen, Zach Duke, David Hernandez, Jared Hughes, Raisel Iglesias, Amir Garrett and Jackson Stephens. The Reds are a split squad today.

Today’s game is on cubs.com. No TV today.

MLB.com Gameday

Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn’t usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.

Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

Please visit our SB Nation Reds site Red Reporter. If you do go there to interact with Reds fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

For spring-training games, we’ll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 2 p.m. CT and 3:30 p.m. CT.

These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked ”Chicago Cubs Game Threads” at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Day.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
