Happy 26th birthday to Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber!
The Cubs play the Angels at Tempe this afternoon, and will host them at Sloan Park on Saturday. Don’t expect to see many of the Angels regulars who are playing today on Saturday, especially since they will be a split squad that day.
Once again, I’m skipping this away game.
Here are today’s particulars.
Cubs lineup:
Zobrist 2B, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Contreras C, Schwarber LF, Heyward RF, Happ CF, Russell SS, Bote DH
Here is a lineup which (apart from the DH, and Addison Russell, who will be under suspension) could resemble the Opening Day lineup later this month. (And yes, I know that Javier Baez won’t be batting eighth on Opening Day.)
Angels lineup:
Bour 1B, Calhoun RF, Trout CF, Pujols DH, Simmons SS, Ward 3B, La Stella 2B, Bourjos LF, Briceno C
Hey, look! There’s our old buddy Tommy La Stella.
Kyle Hendricks will start for the Cubs. Relievers scheduled today (in alphabetical order: Alberto Baldonado, Matt Carasiti, Carl Edwards Jr., Kyle Ryan and Rowan Wick.
Tyler Skaggs will go for the Angels. Other Angels pitchers on the schedule for today: Cody Allen, Luke Bard, Taylor Cole, John Curtiss, Dillon Peters, Noe Ramirez and Matt Ramsey.
Today’s game is on cubs.com. It’s being televised by the Angels TV crew on Fox Sports West, and will be available on MLB.tv. MLB Network will rebroadcast the game at 7 p.m. CT.
Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn’t usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.
Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.
Please visit our SB Nation Angels site Halos Heaven. If you do go there to interact with Angels fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
For spring-training games, we’ll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 2:05 p.m. CT and 3:35 p.m. CT.
These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked ”Chicago Cubs Game Threads” at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Day.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
