Carl Edwards Jr. is off to a horrific start to 2019. He’s appeared in four games, faced 13 batters and allowed eight of them to reach base (three hits, five walks), and the results are a 32.40 ERA, 4.800 (!) WHIP and 25.18. FIP.
He’s a mess, perhaps due to the change he made in his motion, which he was then told — right after the regular season began — was illegal.
Now, CJ will get to work on what’s wrong with him in Triple-A:

There is, at this time, no word on who’s being recalled to replace him. The following pitchers are on the 40-man roster and could be recalled: Rowan Wick, Tim Collins and Kyle Ryan. Wick and Ryan have options remaining; so does Collins, but Collins has enough MLB service that he could refuse an option and become a free agent (unlikely, though).
So I’d guess it’ll be one of those three joining the Cubs in Milwaukee tonight. The Cubs could, I suppose, call up Allen Webster, but that would require removing someone from the 40-man roster and risking losing Webster if they need to send him back down, since Webster would have to clear waivers (and probably wouldn’t).
This article will be updated when more information is available.
UPDATE: Mike Montgomery is headed to the IL:
If you missed my radio report this morning I said Edwards to Iowa, Montgomery to IL. (Injured list)

UPDATE: Here are the callups. No word on who's going off the 40-man roster to make room for Allen Webster:
Headed to the park soon. Cubs trying to break a 6 game skid. So Kyle Ryan and Allan Webster will take Edwards and Montgomery’s (IL) place.Tough not making it to home opener for Edwards. Not sure I’ve seen that before, guy optioned for performance before team has played a home game

UPDATE: Per press release from the Cubs, Jen-Ho Tseng has been designated for assignment to make room for Webster.
