Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs lost to the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), 5-2. It’s only the second time all season that Iowa has lost back-to-back games.

Alec Mills started and got the loss, thanks in large measure to three solo home runs. Mills allowed five runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings. He did strike out six and did not walk anyone, so that’s a positive. Mills did hit one batter.

Junichi Tazawa made his Cubs debut in this game when he pitched a perfect top of the ninth. He struck out one.

First baseman Jim Adduci was 1 for 3 with a sacrifice fly. He also scored Iowa’s other run.

Third baseman Phillip Evans was 2 for 4.

Tennessee Smokies

Game with Birmingham called because of inclement weather. Doubleheader tomorrow starting at 11:30 am Eastern Time.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were stuck by the Carolina Mudcats (Brewers, 7-2).

Adbert Alzolay made his season debut in a rehab assignment with Myrtle Beach today. I am afraid to report that it didn’t go well. Alzolay got tagged for six runs on seven hits over four innings. One of the six runs was unearned. He struck out three and walked two. Alzolay had two wild pitches.

Alexander Vargas pitched three innings for his debut in the Cubs organization. He allowed one run on five hits. Vargas walked two and struck out two.

Shortstop Aramis Ademan was 2 for 4 with an RBI triple in the second inning. He then scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevonte Mitchell.

Mitchell was 2 for 3 with a double.

DH Tyler Payne was 2 for 4 with a double.
