Cubs roster move: Carl Edwards Jr. recalled, Dillon Maples to Iowa

CJ is back!

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Carl Edwards Jr. had a rough start to his 2019 season, allowing six earned runs in fewer than two innings, resulting in him being optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

After several weeks there, where he posted a 2.16 ERA in seven outings with seven strikeouts and two walks, he's back:

Dillon Maples has had some success, especially in his last two appearances against the Diamondbacks and Mariners, but I suspect management would like him to get more regular work, which he will at Iowa. He will surely be back later in the season.

The Cubs also have Mike Montgomery and Xavier Cedeno about ready to come off rehab assignments, so I'd expect further bullpen shuffling later in the week.

As always, we await further developments.
