Kyle Hendricks had a rough outing against the Dodgers Friday night and was lifted in the fifth inning. There was no indication that there was anything amiss other than a bad outing, until this:
The #Cubs today placed RHP Kyle Hendricks on the 10-day IL with right shoulder inflammation and recalled RHP Rowan Wick from @IowaCubs. pic.twitter.com/JQf039ESOG

The recall of Rowan Wick likely means that either Mike Montgomery or Tyler Chatwood will take Hendricks’ place in the rotation for the time being. When Montgomery went into the rotation last year after Yu Darvish went down with an injury, he made several excellent starts in a row. That’s who I’d choose, and it would give the Cubs four lefthanders in the rotation, something that’s important in the N.L. Central, as many of the teams in the division are loaded with lefthanded hitters.
Hopefully this is just a glitch for Kyle, a speed bump in what was shaping up to be an excellent season for him, and he’ll be back not long after the 10 days are up.
Wick made one appearance on his previous recall to the Cubs. He has a 2.30 ERA and 1.098 WHIP in 19 appearances for Triple-A Iowa, with 33 strikeouts in 27⅓ innings.
