State of the Current Cubs Team

We are basically in year five for this current bunch of Cub Players. Here is what I see as a daily observer. This team has no real chance of winning this years World Series. Lets look at their offense. According to the Baseball Reference Web Site, this year's team has hit around .216 against what they term "power pitchers". Though I did not compare that to all the teams in MLB, it was one of the worst in baseball. This is a problem that I have seen with this team for the better part of five years. Even in their World Series winning postseason they struggled mightily against "power pitchers". Look what happened in the 2015 NLCS against the Mets flame throwers. The Cubs struggled and were swept out by the Mets. if one looks at the four past post seasons it has been all pretty much the same. They do not hit the better pitchers for the most part. I do not see this trend as being one that the Cubs are going to be able to change. It is basically the same cast of characters since 2015.

As far as the pitching goes, the team seems way behind the curve when it comes to the current trend of stacking your staff with guys with big time fastballs. In a time when it has become ever so important to be able to miss bats on a consistent basis, this team does not strike many guys out. It is mostly an aging staff that would have looked good three years ago but only looks mediocre today.

So what should management do? If it was me, I would have to seriously analyze the players and think about who the team can go forward with that will help them to the ultimate goal of winning it all. For the guys management thinks are not the long term answers, they should explore trade possibilities. This is a team that, as far as I know, does not have a very deep farm system. Maybe it's time to restock the farm system.

Hey, I love how this team has been over the past 4 plus years, but I think a team should never get too comfortable and should always be looking to improve itself and keep moving forward to the ultimate goals of more championships.
