Tony Barnette, who the Cubs signed as a free agent in the offseason bit has been injured all season, will be joining the team today:
#Cubs activate reliever Tony Barnette off the 60-day IL and option Rowan Wick to Iowa.

And so now you know what the open 40-man roster spot was being held open for.
Barnette had a good year for the Rangers last year, posting a 2.39 ERA and 0.911 WHIP in 22 appearances. Here's hoping he can be that effective again. If so, he'll be a good setup man for Craig Kimbrel, who I expect to join the Cubs in Cincinnati.
With Rowan Wick sent down, it's an open question as to who will be removed from the 25-man roster when Kimbrel is activated. As always, we await developments.
