“Take Me Out to the Ballgame” is a huge part of the live stadium experience. Chanting “one...two...three strikes he’s out” alongside thousands of other Cubs fans in the historic confines of Wrigley Field is an experience unlike any other.
During Thursday’s day game against the Braves, which most will remember for being the debut of Craig Kimbrel as a Cub, there was one other standout moment. Famed Sesame Street character Cookie Monster sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch, and if you need a smile today, then give this a watch [VIDEO].
We also got to see things from in the booth, and pay special attention to the folks in the press box in the top right corner.

In fact, the press on site seemed to be completely over the moon to be in the presence of such a famous monster. They clamored for photos and set aside their laptops to get a better view of the blue cookie-loving fella. Cookie Monster was even gracious enough to take photos with a few press members.

Perks of the job: Sometimes a really big-time 7th inning stretch singer comes through and you get to meet them. pic.twitter.com/4E3tiVo1A6

Truly, even the bleakest of days was cheered briefly by this unbelievably sweet and charming performance. And considering Cookie Monster is now 53 years old, he hasn’t aged a day since I first saw him on Sesame Street as a child.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to watch these videos a dozen more times.
Many thanks to Alyson Cohen at the Cubs for the photo at the top of this post.
