Carlos Gonzalez, once a feared slugger for the Colorado Rockies, was signed to a minor-league contract by the Cubs last week, and reported to Triple-A Iowa.

Sunday, he went 2-for-4 and hit a 445-foot home run for the I-Cubs.

Today, he's joining the Cubs active roster:

Jim Adduci has been a good organizational guy for the Cubs for a long time, as well as a couple other teams. He was designated for assignment and will almost certainly clear waivers and be back at Iowa.

Gonzalez was at one time one of the most feared hitters in the National League. He's hit nine home runs in 94 career AB in Wrigley Field. Who knows? At 33 he might still have something left in the tank. If not, it costs the Cubs virtually nothing (they have to pay him only a prorated portion of the minimum salary), and they'll try something else.

Welcome to the Cubs, CarGo. See if you can channel the 2010 version of yourself.
