Chicago Cubs Minor League Wrap: June 3

Just two games today and both the Smokies and Pelicans lost.

A short schedule tonight as baseball tries to put the focus on the MLB Draft. But the Emeralds are coming soon.

The PCL named I-Cubs pitcher Adbert Alzolay as their Pitcher of the Week.

Iowa Cubs

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies were greased by the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays), 3-2.

Tyson Miller had one bad inning, giving up three runs in the second, and got the loss. Otherwise, he was very good. Miller pitched seven innings and allowed three runs on six hits. He struck out 11 and walked just one.

Left fielder Ian Rice hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. It was his third home run this year and first for the Smokies. Rice was 1 for 4.

Center fielder Charcer Burks was 2 for 4 with a triple.

The Smokies loaded the bases in the top of the ninth after two were out on a single and two walks. But Clayton Daniel lined out to center field to end the game.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans crashed against the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Royals), 9-5.

Starter Erick Leal gave up four runs, all on a grand slam in the fourth inning, on seven hits over 4+ innings. Leal walked one and struck out one.

Jesus Camargo had a fairly disastrous relief outing and took the loss. Camargo gave up five runs in the fifth inning and took the loss. His final line was five runs on five hits over 1.2 innings. Camargo walked one and struck out one.

Center fielder Zack Davis was 2 for 4 with two doubles and a stolen base. His double in the third inning drove in two runs. He also scored once.

Shortstop Aramis Ademan was 2 for 4 with a double and one run scored.
