Carl Edwards Jr., who has some of the best stuff in the Cubs bullpen when he’s on, was placed on the injured list June 13 with what was described as “a left thoracic strain in his upper back near his non-throwing shoulder.”
After three rehab outings at Triple-A Iowa, he’s back:
Cubs activate Carl Edwards Jr. and option Randy Rosario to Triple-A Iowa.

CJ had a rough start to this season and was optioned to Iowa in early April. After his return he was pretty much lights-out until the injury: 2.03 ERA, 0.525 WHIP, 15 strikeouts in 15 appearances covering 13⅓ innings. A healthy Edwards gives the Cubs yet another setup option for Craig Kimbrel.
Randy Rosario has had two stints with the Cubs this year. He’s had a reasonably effective year at Iowa (2.35 ERA, 15 strikeouts in 20 innings), so he’ll likely have more turns on the Iowa Shuttle for the remainder of this season.
