Chicago Cubs Minor League Wrap: July 20

None of the top five teams won tonight.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs were silenced by the Nashville Sounds (Rangers), 7-4.

Colin Rea gave up two runs on just two hits over the first five innings. He walked three and struck out five.

Tim Collins took over for Rea in the sixth inning and things went poorly. Collins allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits in one inning. Two of the three hits were two-run home runs. Collins walked one and struck out one.

DH Jim Adduci went 3 for 4 with two RBI.

Third baseman Phillip Evans was 2 for 4 with an RBI double in the second inning. He scored later in the inning on a single by Adduci.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies were vassalized by the Birmingham Barons (White Sox) 3-1.

Starter Jake Stinnett only allowed one run in his three-inning start, but that was enough to take the loss. Stinnett surrendered two hits. He struck out four and walked no one.

Left fielder Zach Davis was 2 for 4.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans lost to the Salem Red Sox, 5-4.

The Pelicans wasted a fine start from Jeffrey Passantino, tossing five scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits. He walked three and struck out five.

Enrique De Los Rios gave up two unearned runs in the top of the ninth and took the loss. His final line was two runs on one hit and one walk over one inning. De Los Rios struck out two.

Catcher Miguel Amaya hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, his eighth of the season. Amaya went 1 for 4.

Third baseman Cam Balego was 2 for 3 with a walk. Balego scored twice.

Left fielder Grant Fennell went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Second baseman Delvin Zinn was 2 for 5 with a double.

Rain. Doubleheader on Sunday.

Eugene Emeralds

The Eugene Emeralds lost to the Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks), 2-1.

Chris Clarke gave up a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and that was all Hillsboro would need. Clark allowed two runs on four hits over two innings. Clarke struck out four and did not walk anyone.

Didier Vargas tossed four scoreless innings and Hunter Bigge pitched two perfect innings.

Third baseman Luis Diaz doubled to lead off the third inning. He went to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch for the only Ems run of the game. Diaz was 1 for 3.

First baseman Jake Slaughter and shortstop Luis Vazquez were both 2 for 4.

AZL Cubs

Cubs 1 lost to Giants Black 12-9 in ten innings.

Cubs 2 beat Athletics Gold, 7-6.
