Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans split a doubleheader with the Salem Red Sox, winning the completion of yesterday’s suspended game 6-1 and losing the regularly-scheduled game 5-1.
Paul Richan started yesterday’s game and got the win. He allowed just one unearned run on four hits over 6.2 innings. Richan walked one and struck out six.
Second baseman Carlos Sepulveda had a pair of doubles in a 3 for 4 game. He scored twice and had two runs batted in.
Left fielder Grant Fennell was 2 for 4 with a double. Fennell scored two times.
Erich Uelmen started the regularly-scheduled game and took the loss. Uelmen surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings. Uelmen struck out seven and walked two.
DH Tyler Payne went 2 for 3 with a double in game two.
Shortstop Delvin Zinn was 2 for 4.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs overturned the Beloit Snappers (Athletics), 6-4.
Riley Thompson started and got the win after allowing four runs on four hits over five innings. Three of the four runs were unearned, however. Thompson walked two and struck out seven.
The Cubs pitching staff retired the final 14 Snappers hitters of this game. Ivan Medina threw three perfect innings, striking out two. Carlos Vega pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth for the save. He struck out two.
The SB Cubs scored all six runs in the top of the sixth inning. First baseman Fidel Mejia started the scoring with a two-run home run, his second with South Bend. Mejia was 1 for 4.
Second baseman Clayton Daniel went 2 for 4 and scored on Mejia’s home run.
Shortstop Rafael Narea went 2 for 4 with a bunt RBI single in the sixth.
Eugene Emeralds
The Eugene Emeralds were shut out by the Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks), 4-0.
Ems starter Eduarniel Nuñez didn’t make it out of the first inning. Nuñez gave up two runs on four hits over two-thirds of an inning. He walked one and struck out one.
The Ems had just three hits in this game.
AZL Cubs
Cubs 2 beat Giants Black, 7-3 in a game that ended after seven innings because of weather.
