Cubs righthander Steve Cishek has been used a lot this year, at times several days in a row. He threw an inning in Friday night’s loss and allowed one run.
And now, he’ll get a little bit of a break:
Steve Cishek to the 10-day IL with left hip inflammation. Dillon Maples recalled from AAA Iowa.

Pitchers have aches and pains in general, most of the season. The 10-day injured list has allowed what we have termed the “Iowa Shuttle,” allowing relievers to come up and down nearly at will over the last two seasons. This will change in 2020, when the IL minimum for pitchers returns to its previous 15-day limit.
So Dillon Maples will join the bullpen for a time. Perhaps not too long a time:
More bullpen updates:

• Kimbrel (10-day IL) meeting team in Philadelphia, where it’s possible he’ll throw a bullpen session.
• Kintzler (10-day IL) throwing bullpen today.
• Ryan (bereavement list) will meet team in Philly as well.
Craig Kimbrel is eligible to come off the injured list Wednesday. At that point, if Kimbrel is activated, I’d think Maples would head back to Iowa. Presuming Kyle Ryan meets the team in Philadelphia Tuesday, Alec Mills likely goes back to Triple-A at that point. Brandon Kintzler isn’t eligible to return from the IL until next Friday. Oh, also:
