The photo at the top of this post is probably the most indelible image we’ll ever have of David Bote — it’s running the bases after hitting his walkoff grand slam against the Nationals August 12, 2018.
Now, he’s rejoining the Cubs, and in time to play Sunday against the Nats:

Bote was demoted to Triple-A Iowa six days ago. Normally players have to stay in the minor leagues for 10 days after a demotion, but there’s an exception in case of injury and in this case, Derek Holland is the odd man out.
Holland has a 4.66 ERA and 1.138 WHIP in 12 appearances for the Cubs after the Giants released him. He's got pretty extreme platoon splits this year and probably shouldn't face anyone but lefthander hitters, but he hasn't been used that way. By the time he's eligible to return, rosters will have expanded.
