Before the start of tonight’s game with the Athletics, the Cubs announced that they have placed right-handed reliever Brandon Kintzler on the injured list. Right-handed reliever Pedro Strop was activated off the IL to take Kintzler’s place.
Kintzler left last night’s game complaining of “right pec discomfort.” The Cubs decided to play it safe and put Kintzler on the IL The Cubs have stressed that this is “not a serious injury” but that they are being conservative.
Pedro Strop last pitched on Friday, July 26 at Milwaukee. Three days later, he was placed on the IL with “left neck tightness,” retroactive to Saturday. He missed the minimum ten days on the injured list.
So far this season, Kintzler is 2-1 with a 2.33 ERA over 49 relief appearances. Strop is 2-4 with a 5.20 ERA and nine saves in 32 appearances.
