The Cubs still have to win Game 2 Friday — and we still don’t know at this writing whether it’ll be at 1:08 or 6:08 p.m. CT — but if they do and force a Game 3 Saturday, it will be played at 2:38 p.m. CT, per an announcement from Major League Baseball late Thursday.
This is a really good idea, because of this weather forecast:
Saturday Night
Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 47. South southeast wind around 5 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
So, MLB is being proactive here — Saturday afternoon, per that forecast, will be partly sunny with temperatures around 57 degrees.
The Saturday game would be televised on ESPN2.
Incidentally, the TV channel for Friday’s game will change if the game is moved to 6:08 p.m. CT. If it’s played at 1:08, the game will be on ABC. If it’s at 6:08, it will be on ESPN. The only way it moves to evening if it’s the only game remaining (in other words, if the Cardinals and Dodgers both win Thursday evening).
I’ll have more to say about the Cubs, MLB and the weather tomorrow.
