This week is Awards Week for Major League Baseball, and we are learning each day who was the BBWAA’s choice for MVP, Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year and Cy Young. Here at SB Nation, we gave fans who signed up for SB Nation Reacts their own opportunity to chime in.
League MVP awards will be announced Thursday. This year, fans said Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu deserved the MVP, earning 44 percent of the vote.
For National League MVP, Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman took the crown with 55 percent of the vote.
The Cy Young winners, who will be announced later this afternoon, got even higher percentages in the Reacts survey. In the American League, Cleveland Indians ace Shane Bieber won with 81 percent of the vote.
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Trevor Bauer came in just a little behind that, winning the NL nod among survey respondents with 63 percent.
Two awards have already been announced earlier this week. Fans agreed with the baseball writers on the AL Rookie of the Year, which was revealed on Monday. Seattle Mariners outfielder Kyle Lewis earned 46 percent of the vote, narrowly beating out White Sox outfielder Luis Robert with 43 percent. The fans and writers split, however, on the NL award. Fans gave the honor to San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth, who earned 44 percent. He beat Brewers pitcher Devin Williams, who took home the trophy.
Fans also predicted both of the Manager of the Year winners, selecting Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash and Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly.
