Remember when the Cubs got Bobby Bonds (June 4, 1981)? Yeah, this feels like teams from that storied period, when the year they were .500 (1977, the year of the Kong) was the high-water mark. Maybe Jed Hoyer becomes the new Dallas Green, but I doubt it. They’re already erecting obstacles.

Previously, the or-gan-i-zation (cameo appearance by Bob Pulford) spent money unwisely. From all appearances, they’ll continue to do that, only with fewer zeroes on the paychecks. I don’t know how much of this bear market inefficiency I can bear.

I hope you had a solid solstice, a cool Yule, a mellow midwinter’s day. Not much to read about, but a couple of things maybe worth discussing around the fire — enough to put under a really tiny tree. Here’s Cub Tracks News and Notes. As always, * means autoplay on, or annoying ads, or both(directions to remove for Firefox and Chrome). {$} means paywall. {$} means limited views. Italics are often used on this page as sarcasm font. (In the comments section, use @ before and after your remarks @ to produce sarcasm font.)
