Cub Tracks continues to hold the line against white male PBP personnel. That’s pretty much the only news, heading into the Zoom Winter Meetings, which I expect will be as inconclusive as a typical Twitter argument.
Tom Dooley may not have given a damn for a greenback dollar but the powers-that-be behind the Cubs are gonna dance a merry minuet on your wallet if given the opportunity. It was a very good year, once. Now it looks like a zombie jamboree, and the flowers have all gone. Won’t you join me for a drink? And don’t forget — movie and music posts are coming soon. I probably won’t participate but I will post the occasional ditty here.
Here’s Cub Tracks News and Notes. As always, * means autoplay on, or annoying ads, or both (directions to remove for Firefox and Chrome). {$} means paywall. {$} means limited views. Italics are often used on this page as sarcasm font. (In the comments section, use @ before and after your remarks @ to produce sarcasm font.)
- Russell Dorsey (Chicago Sun-Times* {$}): Has market taken shape for Cubs ahead of next week’s Winter Meetings? “After non-tendering Kyle Schwarber and Albert Almora Jr. on Wednesday, the Cubs took their first steps in what will be an offseason of change.”
- Brett Taylor (Bleacher Nation*): Jed Hoyer is in an important spot to bring about some good change, too. Elaborating on some parts of recent Patrick Mooney article {$}. “... the Cubs have only six players remaining from their active 25-man roster during the 2016 World Series.”
- Todd Johnson (Cubs Insider*): Chicago Cubs Organizational Breakdown, Pt 2: Chase Strumpf shines bright at 2B. “... second base could probably be the most improved position in the minors a year from now.”
- Brian Stultz (MiLB.com*): State of the System: Chicago Cubs. “... the farm system has quite a number of stars in-waiting who could become regular contributors at Wrigley Field...”
- Marquee Sports Network*: Cliff Floyd on Off the Mound. “Floyd believes ‘fate’ brought him to the Cubs, strengthened bond with his father.”
