The caps of all MLB teams, including the Cubs, have received a redesign for spring training. What you’ll see the Cubs wearing is above. This cap will also be worn during batting practice during the regular season.
The New Era Cap Company, designer of this cap, says about it:
The New Era Official MLB Batting Practice Collection offers an exciting new take on team marks by introducing new designs where alternate logos, chosen by the team, are embroidered within primary logos on the front of the cap. The team’s alternate logo is also embroidered on the right side of the cap. In addition to the new team design, these caps feature a performance fabric that provides players and fans a light breathable mesh with moisture wicking.
What you see in the Cubs cap is a merging of three different logos: the “C” you’d see on the official game cap, the word “Cubs,” and the walking-bear logo that’s on the jersey sleeve.
I’ve seen some criticism of this style around the web, but I rather like it. It’s different and keeps the team color scheme intact while giving a different look.
