Cubs vs. Rockies at Scottsdale preview, Tuesday 3/3, 2:10 CT

The sun has returned, it’s a beautiful day, and the Cubs hit the road.

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — In case you’ve been wondering where some Cubs pitchers have been, Jose Quintana will finally pitch in a game today. Craig Kimbreltomorrow. Dillon Mapleslater this week.

Meanwhile, Steven Souza Jr. says he’s “100 percent” back from last year’s devastating knee injury:

“Every month it got a little bit better,” he said. “You know with my faith and my family, they were able to help me push through to this moment. I honestly feel 100 percent back to normal. Which is a miracle in itself.”

Pre-injury, Souza had a very good offensive season for the Rays in 2017. The Cubs don’t need him to do that, just be a good fourth outfielder. He’s looked good so far in spring games and doesn’t appear to have any limitations. Could be a very good under-the-radar signing. You’ll see him in today’s game.

Here are today’s particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Happ CF, Contreras C, Schwarber LF, Souza RF, Kipnis 2B, Hoerner SS, Rivas 1B, Cuevas DH, Higgins 3B

Alfonso Rivas is a prospect first baseman who was acquired from the A’s for Tony Kemp. He’s been getting quite a bit of playing time this spring. Today will be his first start in a MLB spring game. Rivas is a walk machine — he has a .390 career minor-league OBP.

Rockies lineup:

Dahl CF, Story SS, Blackmon RF, Arenado 3B, Murphy 1B, Desmond LF, McMahon 2B, Tapia DH, Wolters C

Jose Quintana will start for the Cubs, his first spring outing. Cubs relievers scheduled today, in alphabetical order: Rex Brothers, Dakota Mekkes, CD Pelham, Colin Rea, Duane Underwood Jr. and Rowan Wick.

Ashton Goudeau will go for the Rockies. (Seriously, “Ashton Goudeau” sounds like a French Impressionist painter.) Other Rockies pitchers today: Jose Mujica, Bryan Shaw, Jairo Diaz and James Pazos.

Also of interest (note, time listed is ET):

Today’s game is on the Marquee Network. Here is a complete channel guide for all the providers currently signed up with Marquee. Note that it is possible some of these channels might not be up and running right away. This is new to all of us and I would anticipate glitches. Hopefully it all gets squared away by Opening Day, including Marquee deals with Comcast and YouTube TV, among others.

No radio broadcast or webcast today, so if you don’t have Marquee you will have to follow along on MLB.com Gameday

Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn’t usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season — usually, it will update after each at-bat.

Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

Please visit our SB Nation Rockies site Purple Row. If you do go there to interact with Rockies fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

For spring-training games, we’ll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 2 p.m. CT and 3:30 p.m. CT.

These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked ”Chicago Cubs Game Threads” at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Day.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
