My portion of today’s entry will be brief because my ability to put into words the impact and broadcast career of Cubs radio broadcaster Pat Hughes pales in comparison to his ability to tell those stories. As Phil Rosenthal aptly said last winter in the Chicago Tribune Hughes has “a jeweler’s eye for detail and a musician’s timing.”

Andi Cruz Vanecek and I were lucky enough to have Pat Hughes joins us on the latest episode of Cuppa Cubbie Blue for almost an hour Monday evening. It was so comforting to hear his familiar voice regale us with tales of baseball from his childhood and storied career. We also learned what he thinks about the COVID-19 pandemic and baseball’s potential role in helping to heal people after this passes.

This short conversation made my week so much better, hopefully it will make your’s a bit better as well.
