Cubs roster moves: Tyler Chatwood, Jose Quintana activated; Jason Adam, Ian Miller optioned

The Cubs will have an extra pitcher around for a few days, at least.

Tyler Chatwood has been on the injured list for 10 days with what was described as a “mid back strain.” Jose Quintana hasn’t pitched at all this year after slicing his thumb open in a dishwashing accident at home in Miami.

If you had “Jason Adam and Ian Miller” in the pool as to who was going back to the alternate site in South Bend, you win.

Adam, a righthanded reliever, made three appearances for the Cubs, one each against the Brewers, Cardinals and White Sox, and wasn’t real effective in any of them, accruing a 7.36 ERA and 1.909 WHIP.

Miller, a lefthanded hitting outfielder, was recalled from the alternate site just two days ago. He’s been in uniform for the Cubs for two games, Sunday and Monday, and pinch-ran on Sunday against the White Sox. I suspect he’ll be back eventually.

Chatwood is scheduled to start tonight’s game. Quintana will be available in relief. I wouldn’t be surprised if they wind up piggybacking the two and giving them about three innings each.
