Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across MLB. Each week, we send out questions to the most plugged in Cubs fans, and fans across the country. Sign up here to join Reacts.

We’re just a bit over a month past Opening Day 2020, but this year’s baseball season has simultaneously passed its midway point and is already in the home stretch.

And thus the small sample size of the first half of the season is about to be put to the test. Were the first few weeks of play a fluke, or the sign of each team’s true ability for 2020? We asked fans in the most recent SB Nation Reacts survey about this, based on their expectations for this season.

The survey results might surprise you. Fans who responed said the first half of the season went as expected or even better than what most Cubs fans had in mind.

However, since the midway point, things haven’t progressed the way most Cubs fans would like. With higher expectations, confidence in the team has dropped to 68 percent. When we asked the same question earlier in the year, 82 percent of Cubs fans felt the team was headed in the right direction.
