Baseball Prospectus prospect writers Jeffrey Pasternostro, Jarrett Seidler and Keanan Lamb released that publication’s annual list of the Top 101 prospects in the game and they ranked four Cubs among the most promising young minor leaguers in baseball.

The Cubs making the list are:

63. Brailyn Marquez, LHP

78. Brennen Davis, OF

88. Ed Howard, SS

89. Miguel Amaya, C

Marquez, 21, made his major league debut in 2020 after spending most of last year at the alternative site in South Bend. He pitched for the South Bend Cubs and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2019, posting a combined record of 9-5 with a 3.13 ERA. He struck out a whopping 128 batters in 103⅔ innings, although he combined that with 50 walks.

Davis, 21, was the Cubs’ second-round pick in 2018 and was also at the alternative site in 2020. Davis had an injury-filled 2019 season for South Bend, but when he did play he was terrific, hitting .305/.381/.525 with eight home runs in 50 games. He also hit .310 in seven playoff games as the SB Cubs won the Midwest League title.

Amaya, 21, is considered the Cubs catcher of the future, showing great promise both handing the position defensively and working with the pitching staff. Amaya also has a great deal of power at the plate. He also spent 2020 at the alternate site in South Bend. Amaya played for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2019, hitting .235/.351/.402 with 11 home runs in 99 games.

Howard, 19, was the Cubs’ first-round draft pick in 2020 out of Mount Carmel High School here in Chicago. He has yet to make his professional debut.

All four are expected to be important parts of the Cubs’ future and it’s nice to see them get some recognition for that.
