Leaving aside the discussion of the benefits pro and con of late-stage capitalism, gentrification, and their effects on the body politic that yesterday’s comments could precipitate, I think we can all agree that the Cubs are in pretty poor shape at present and don’t seem terribly interested in getting much better in the near future.

I don’t imagine players are too keen on locking up big chunks of their playing days to wait for resolution of this fiasco. If I were in that spot, I wouldn’t have the degree of trust necessary to thinking that such resolution and a return to competitiveness will actually occur, and I am resigned to seeing the rest of the ‘core’ drift away like the monster on that ice floe.

Here’s Cub Tracks News and Notes, your every-other-day-except-on-weekends escape from the humdrum. As always, * means autoplay on, or annoying ads, or both (directions to remove for Firefox and Chrome). {$} means paywall. {$} means limited views. Italics are often used on this page as sarcasm font. (In the comments section, use @ before and after your remarks @ to produce sarcasm font. In the text body. It doesn’t work in the headlines.)
