2021 MLB Division Series: Brewers vs. Braves Game 3

It’s a Monday afternoon filled with baseball!

Sunday’s Astros/White Sox game turned on this play:

There’s no question in my mind that Yasmani Grandal is out of the baseline here and should have been called out, even without the unintentional interference. The umpires, though, disagreed.

If interference is called, the White Sox’ three-run fourth inning likely turns out quite differently.

Dusty Baker also outsmarted himself in the eighth inning. Down 9-6 with the first two Sox struck out by Ryne Stanek, Baker removed the reliable Stanek for lefty Brooks Raley, just so Yoán Moncada would have to bat from the right side. Now, Moncada isn’t quite as good a hitter righty as he is lefty, but to me the difference isn’t great enough to bring in Raley.

Moncada singled off Raley, and of course with the three-batter rule Raley has to stay in. He wound up giving up five straight hits and three runs.

At 9-6, Houston might have had a chance in the ninth. At 12-6, the game’s over.

The White Sox and Astros game scheduled for today has been postponed:

Brewers vs. Braves, 12:07 p.m. CT. Series tied 1-1.

Freddy Peralta, RHP vs. Ian Anderson, RHP

TV: TBS. Announcers: Don Orsillo, Jeff Francoeur and Matt Winer.
