A Reminder About What Matters

This item came up in my Memories of the Day section in Facebook and I thought I'd share it here.

My daughter K wakes up and wanders out to the living room just in time to see the Cubs make the last out of the game and of their season. She says to me, "Are you sad your team lost, Daddy?" "I am, a little," I replied, "but I'm okay. You know why?" I ask her.

"Because you have your family who loves you?" she says back.

"Yep, because I have my family who loves me."

We talked a little bit more, I gave her a hug good night, and she went back to bed.

Good night, Chicago Cubs. I'll see you again in 2019.

Tonight, I'm still crying tears of happiness.

It's been a long year, both for baseball, the Cubs, and the world in general. While there are lots of things to yell at Cubs management and the Commissioner's Office about, if you have a family you love and who loves you back... well, you are doing pretty good in the win-loss column that matters.

That I was reminded of by my then 6-year old Grantland Rice.
