Cubs pitchers and catchers began workouts Wednesday. The first full-squad workout is scheduled for next Monday, and a week after that, the Cubs will take the field in Peoria, Arizona against the Mariners.
Usually, when workouts begin I’ll head to Mesa to watch and take some video to share with you. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, workouts are closed to the public.
Fortunately, the Cubs shot some video from Wednesday’s workout and so I can share this with you:
In the video, you can see pitchers Kyle Hendricks, Zach Davies, Trevor Williams and Jake Arrieta throw. The catcher with the beard is Austin Romine. The video also features some shots of manager David Ross, as well as Adbert Alzolay, who should also be in this year’s rotation. Personally, I’m excited to see what Alzolay can do. His brief appearances in September 2020 hinted at a lot of upside and a bright future. (Enough spring training cliches for you?)
In other spring training news, I was able to obtain all the tickets I wanted for the upcoming 14 home games at Sloan Park. That revised schedule begins March 2 with a game against the Royals. For now, I believe the Cubs have set up good safety protocols for Sloan Park and I can safely attend games. If at any time that feeling changes, I won’t go.
Anyway, enjoy the video, I hope to be able to share more of these with you as the spring workouts continue.
