In addition to the roster moves announced earlier Thursday, the Cubs made some changes to their pitching staff.

Jason Adam, who had been placed on the COVID-19 list Monday, was activated. Remember that none of the players placed on the COVID-19 list were put there because of a positive test, it was out of an “abundance of caution.”

Shelby Miller was also recalled from the alternate site. There was room for Miller because of the placements on the COVID-19 list. Miller will wear uniform No. 29.

To make room for Miller and Adam on the 26-man active roster, Adbert Alzolay and Brad Wieck were optioned to the alternate site.

I wouldn’t take this as a sign that the Cubs don’t trust Alzolay, who made a very good start against the Brewers Tuesday. The likely reason is that the Cubs have two off days coming up (Thursday and Monday) and thus likely don’t need a fifth starter for a while, especially since Kyle Hendricks was skipped in the rotation Tuesday and could come back, potentially, over the weekend.

As always, we await developments.
