The Cubs have had several players on the COVID-19 list due to possible exposure to the virus, though as of a couple of days ago no Cubs player had tested positive.
One of those players was Matt Duffy, who was placed on the COVID-19 list on Tuesday. Ildemaro Vargas had been recalled from the South Bend alternate site as a replacement. Vargas went 0-for-2 as a pinch hitter in the Brewers series.
Duffy is 1-for-8 with a double and a walk in seven games played for the Cubs so far this season. He made the team out of Spring Training as a non-roster invitee.
There’s no further word about the two other Cubs pitchers still on the COVID-19 list, Dan Winkler and Brandon Workman. Hopefully they will be able to return soon.
As of this writing, the series against the Braves this weekend will begin on time at 1:20 p.m. CT with Zach Davies going for the Cubs and Kyle Wright for the Braves. Today’s game preview will post at 11:30 a.m. CT.
