Here at CUB TRACKS NEWS AND NOTES™, we like to keep things brief on the principle that it makes us appear wise. We don’t always, but we like to.

I don’t think anyone is gonna complain about the length of Friday’s game. Mainly because of the cause, which was all those Cubs running the bases and hitting balls over 100 mph and Javy Jilights and all things like that. That’s entertainment, Paul Weller.

Morale relativism, catch it. Good times. As always, * means autoplay on, or annoying ads, or both (directions to remove for Firefox and Chrome). {$} means paywall. {$} means limited views. Italics are often used on this page as sarcasm font. (In the comments section, use @ before and after your remarks @ to produce sarcasm font. In the text body. It doesn’t work in the headlines.)
Nerd alert: Through the 6th inning today, the Cubs have 14 batted balls of 100+ MPH, tied for their 2nd-most in any game in the Statcast Era (since 2015). They had 17 in a game against the Tigers last season.

David Bote's grounder was the Cubs' 15th batted ball this afternoon with a 102+ mph exit velocity
— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) April 23, 2021
That's the most by a team in a single game tracked by Statcast (since 2015)
I dunno which is right but cool either way.

- Manny Randhawa (MLB.com*): Cubs score 15 runs for 2nd time in 3 days. “Anthony Rizzo, Javier Báez, Jake Marisnick and Willson Contreras all homered, and Kris Bryant continued his hot streak at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double.” Meghan Montemurro adds on. Andy Martinez runs the numbers.
- Jose M. Osorio (Chicago Tribune* {$}): Photos: Cubs 15, Brewers 2.
- Brett Taylor (Bleacher Nation*): Mets manager comments on the big white spot on Craig Kimbrel’s cap. “... he was responding to questions he was asked, and he was hardly making accusations.”
- Tony Andracki (Marquee Sports Network*): The Cubs’ plan for Nico Hoerner. “Nico’s a good player — I think he can help us out,” Ross said.
- Ismail Soyugenc (MLB.com*): El Mago’s latest trick: Look, no hands. “Javier Báez added to the fun with a ridiculous defensive play.”
- Sahadev Sharma (The Athletic {$}): Kris Bryant finds his MVP form, sparking a sweep of the Mets as Báez searches for his. “When Bryant is right, he’s the best player on the Cubs.”
- Evan Altman (Cubs Insider*): Why Bryant’s performance isn’t surprising, plus more replay criticism. “Now fully healthy again, Bryant is proving that he’s still an elite hitter...”
- Jordan Bastian (MLB.com*): J-Hey and friends help a community heal. “Building community through fresh food.”
- Brett Taylor (Bleacher Nation*): Pat Hughes will call his first regular season Cubs game on TV this weekend. “The long-time Cubs radio man will call his first TV broadcast on Sunday.”
- Rick Morrissey (Chicago Sun-Times* {$}): The end of baseball’s defensive shift can’t come soon enough. Signed, Old Guy. “Is it good for the game? Only if you want to see less hitting.”

Sleeping in on the weekend might be good for you, but it’s not going to fix all your problems https://t.co/H0CTvMq9eC pic.twitter.com/K9KTVQOxPB
