Trevor Megill made his major league debut during the Braves series and did well, throwing two scoreless innings, with a pair of strikeouts.

Something happened during those innings, as Megill was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday afternoon with a right forearm strain. (Those are never good, they can be precursors to Tommy John surgery.)

Recalled from the Cubs’ alternate site in South Bend was lefthander Kyle Ryan, whose only big-league action so far this year was two scoreless innings in the Cubs’ 15-2 blowout of the Brewers a week ago today.

There’s a bit of serendipity in this move, as the Reds are a more lefthanded hitting team than the Braves, so the Cubs will now have an extra lefty in the bullpen, giving them four in total. Justin Steele, Rex Brothers and Andrew Chafin are the other lefthanders available for the Cubs for this three-game series that begins tonight.

Today’s game preview will post shortly, at 4 p.m. CT.
