Cubs roster move: Jake Marisnick to injured list, Brad Wieck recalled

The Cubs outfielder will miss some time.

Jake Marisnick was injured making this diving play at Wrigley Field Sunday [VIDEO].

What you can’t see in that video, and what I saw from the bleachers, was Marisnick immediately slamming his glove to the ground. He knew he was injured, and it was diagnosed as a right hamstring injury, something that has kept him out of action in some previous years.

Now, it will again, as he has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Hopefully, he won’t have to spend much more time than that there. The IL move is retroactive to yesterday.

To replace Marisnick on the 26-man active roster, the Cubs have recalled Brad Wieck from Triple-A Iowa. This will return the Cubs to a nine-man bullpen and four-man bench for the time being.

Wieck has thrown one scoreless inning of relief for the Cubs this year, April 12 in Milwaukee. He was also part of a combined no-hitter Sunday for the I-Cubs in Des Moines. In that game he threw two innings and struck out five.

This will give the Cubs four lefthanders in the bullpen — Justin Steele, Rex Brothers and Andrew Chafin, in addition to Wieck.
