Cubs infielder Matt Duffy has been suffering from “bumps and bruises,” per manager David Ross, and Tuesday the team placed him on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Monday) with a low back strain.
To replace Duffy on the 26-man active roster, the Cubs added Patrick Wisdom from Triple-A Iowa. As Wisdom was not on the 40-man roster, righthander Jason Adam was designated for assignment.
Wisdom has posted a .913 OPS with a double, three home runs, 11 RBI, six walks in eight games for Triple-A Iowa this season. The former No. 1 pick of the Cardinals (52nd overall, compensation round pick in 2012) played in two games for the Cubs at the end of the 2020 season and went 0-for-2.
It’s a tough break for Jason Adam, who suffered an ankle injury at Iowa over the weekend, had surgery and might be out for the season.
Hopefully this IL move for Duffy won’t last more than the 10 days.
Today’s game preview will post at 3:45 p.m. CT.
