First off, I’d like to wish a happy Mother’s Day out there to every mother reading this.
Second, a reminder that there will be no Minor League Wrap on Monday as Mondays are a travel day all season for every Cubs minor league team.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs no-hit Indianapolis, 2-0. Iowa finishes the series winning three-of-five.
Shelby Miller started this game on a rehab assignment and pitched three innings. He gave up one walk and struck out five.
Tommy Nance relieved Miller in the fourth and pitched the next three innings and got the win. He also walked one and struck out five. In addition, because the I-Cubs only had two hitters on their bench today, Nance had to bat for himself in the fifth inning with runners on the corners and one out. In his first professional plate appearance, Nance hit a sac fly to center field for the first run of the game. It was almost a hit.
Brad Wieck was perfect over the next two innings. He struck out five.
Ryan Meisinger came on to pitch the ninth and complete the no-hitter. Things looked shaky as he walked the first hitter on four pitches. Then Travis Swaggerty hit a hard shot down the right field line, but because first baseman Taylor Gushue was holding the runner on, he was able to spear the ball and make an out at first. The next two batter hit fly balls to left and right field to finish out the no-hitter.
Second baseman Abaital Avelino was 2 for 4 with an RBI single in the eighth inning.
Iowa only had five hits, all singles in this game.
This was the first Iowa Cubs no-hitter since Chris Rusin threw one at New Orleans in 2014. It’s the first one at home since Reggie Patterson in 1984.
Here’s the final out of the game.

Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies were extinguished by the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays), 10-5.
Starter Luis Lugo got the loss after he gave up two runs on four hits over three innings. One of the four hits was a solo home run in the third inning. Lugo struck out four and walked one.
Right fielder Vance Vizcaino hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Vizcaino was 1 for 4.
Third baseman Levi Jordan went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI single in the fourth inning. Jordan went 2 for 3. He was also hit by a pitch. There were eight batters hit by a pitch in this game. Five Smokies got hit and three Biscuits.
Left fielder Christian Donahue was 2 for 5 with a stolen base. He scored one run.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs game was postponed for inclement weather. The game will be made up in August.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were shut out by the Charleston RiverDogs (Rays), 3-0.
Manuel Espinoza turned in a terrific start today, allowing just one hit and one walk over five innings. Espinoza struck out seven.
Jose Miguel Gonzalez kept the game scoreless through the next two innings. But Eduarniel Nunez came on to pitch the eight inning and took the loss when he gave up three runs on four hits in his one inning of work. One of those hits was a two-run home run. Gonzalez did not walk anyone and struck out one.
The Pelicans only had four hits today. Right fielder Edmond Americaan was 1 for 3 with a double in the sixth inning, but he was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple.
The next batter up, center fielder Darius Hill, also doubled. Hill was 1 for 4.
