P.J. Higgins is the latest addition to the Cub injured list:
Roster moves:
— Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) June 11, 2021
Catcher P.J. Higgins to 10-day IL with right forearm strain. C José Lobatón selected from Triple-A Iowa. RHP Dakota Chalmers DFA'd.
Higgins played good defense but had just one hit in 23 at bats along with two walks.
Jose Lobaton is 36 and was signed to a minor league deal by the Cubs last winter. He last played in the majors with the Nationals in 2018, and was hitting .179/.347/.410 in 15 games at Triple-A Iowa.
To make room for Lobaton on the 40-man roster, Dakota Chalmers was designated for assignment. Chalmers was claimed on waivers from the Twins recently and the Cubs likely hope he clears waivers so they can keep him.
As always, we await developments.
