The Cubs have had to mix and match in the outfield for the last few weeks with Jason Heyward and Jake Marisnick out.
Today, Heyward was activated from the injured list and will be in tonight’s starting lineup. The Cubs also claimed righthanded reliever Dakota Chalmers on waivers from the Twins and optioned Chalmers to Double-A Tennessee, per Jordan Bastian. To make room for Chalmers on the 40-man roster, outfielder Nick Martini was designated for assignment. These are per Twitter reports from Paul Sullivan of the Tribune.
Marisnick, who was spotted taking batting practice in San Francisco Friday, has not yet been activated from the IL. Kris Bryant is slotted in to play center field in Saturday night’s lineup.
There have been Twitter reports that righthander Cory Abbott was being recalled from Triple-A Iowa, but there’s been no confirmation of this move as of yet. When I get further information on this move I will post about it separately.
Today’s game preview will post at 4 p.m. CT.
