Cubs, Cardinals postponed, makeup date September 24

The Cubs and Cardinals begin their All-Star break a day early due to rain.

The weather in Chicago has been more like late September than mid-July the last couple of days, with temperatures in the 60s and rainshowers off and on, including light rain throughout the entire game at Wrigley Field Saturday.

Rainy conditions continued Sunday and so the Cubs announced that the game against the Cardinals was postponed. The makeup date is September 24 as part of a split doubleheader, time TBD pending discussion with the city of Chicago, since that would mean a Friday night game.

This will give some of the banged-up (not to mention beleaguered) Cubs an extra day of All-Star break. The Cubs’ regular season resumes Friday in Arizona with a three-game series against the pathetic Diamondbacks, who lost 22-1 to the Dodgers Saturday.

Kris Bryant and Craig Kimbrel will head to Denver for All-Star festivities. We’ll have complete coverage here, along with coverage of the MLB Draft, which begins tonight at 6 p.m. CT. There will be a Draft thread posted at 5 p.m. CT. I’ll also have a midseason look at the 2021 Cubs and where they go from here.
