Cubs righthander Dillon Maples was placed on the 10-day injured list June 16 (retroactive to June 15) with a right triceps strain. In seven rehab outings with Triple-A Iowa from June 26-July 17, Maples walked eight, struck out 11, limited hitters to a .182 BA and a .554 OPS to go along with a 3.72 ERA (four earned runs in 9⅔ innings).
Today, Maples was activated from the injured list and lefthander Kyle Ryan was optioned to Iowa.
In 18 relief appearances for the Cubs this season, Maples this season has a 1.99 ERA and 1.015 WHIP. He’s allowed only nine hits in 22x innings, with 14 walks and 32 strikeouts, which is an average of 12.71 strikeouts per nine innings. He has held opponents to a .122 BA (9-for-74) and a .511 OPS.
Ryan has posted an 8.31 ERA in five relief appearances for the big-league Cubs this season.
