Here, I wrote all this stuff about Alec Mills in yesterday’s preview and it’s still valid, so you get to read it again!
As I have previously noted here, Alec Mills is a much better pitcher at Wrigley Field than on the road in 2021.
Home: 11 appearances (four starts), 3.27 ERA, 1.242 WHIP in 33 innings
Road: 11 appearances (six starts), 5.45 ERA, 1.624 WHIP in 36⅓ innings
In four appearances (one start) vs. Milwaukee this year, he has a 3.24 ERA and 0.600 WHIP in 8⅓ innings, pretty good, small sample size alert.
And there’s the no-hitter he threw against them last year. So, maybe tonight will be good for Alec.

You remember Aaron Ashby’s MLB debut. It is his only MLB game to date.
You don’t? Of course you do. It was June 30, the day the Cubs scored seven runs in the first inning in Milwaukee. We won’t talk about the rest of that game.
Since that game, Ashby has posted a 4.44 ERA and 1.274 WHIP in eight games at Triple-A Nashville, with a .308 opponents BA. Ashby has faced four Cubs who are still on the roster: Willson Contreras, Ian Happ, Patrick Wisdom and Sergio Alcántara. They went 3-for-5 with a walk against him in that June 30 game, not that the small sample size means much.
Ashby is the nephew of former MLB pitcher Andy Ashby.
There’s no pitch visual available for Ashby, as Statcast only has those for pitchers who have thrown at least 100 MLB pitches this year. Ashby threw 39 pitches in that June 30 game.
Today’s game is on Marquee Sports Network. Here’s a list of providers currently carrying Marquee. It’s also on MLB Network (outside the Cubs and Brewers market territories).
Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.
