The soggy summer of 2021 continues, as more heavy rain hit the Chicago area Tuesday evening, forcing postponement of the Cubs/Rockies game scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.
The makeup game is scheduled for tomorrow, August 25, at 5:30 p.m. CT, as the second game of a split doubleheader at Wrigley Field, following the regularly scheduled game at 1:20 p.m. CT. Both games will be seven-inning regulation games.
Tickets to today’s postponed game will be valid to use for the August 25 rescheduled contest. Mobile tickets via the MLB Ballpark app will automatically update with the makeup game information. No ticket exchange is necessary. If you go to the day game, you will have to leave the ballpark and re-enter for the night game.
The early night game start is likely because it’s getaway day for the Rockies, even though they have Thursday off. If it’s a “normal” length seven-inning day game, it should end between 3:30 and 4 p.m. and that should be enough time to clear the ballpark and get everything re-set for the night game. If it runs long or into extras? Well... they’ll have to mak adjustments.
I did go to Wrigley this afternoon as it appeared they might have a window to play. Around 5:30 they asked everyone to shelter in place and heavy rain hit the area about 30 minutes later. The game was finally called around 6:50 p.m., but I waited inside until the rain let up before heading home.
This is the fourth postponed game at Wrigley Field so far in 2021. I’m sure the Cubs would not like to have any more. And guess what? There’s about a 30 percent chance of storms again Wednesday.
Let’s hope those hold off and they can get both these games in.
