The Iowa Cubs lost to the St. Paul Saints (Twins), 11-1.

It was a bullpen game for the Iowa Cubs, so Dakota Mekkes got the start. Mekkes retired the side in order in the bottom of the first inning. Everything went off the rails after that.

Mekkes retired the first two batters in the second, but then walked the next four batters. After a two-run single and yet another walk, Mekkes left the game for Bryan Hudson.

The final line on Mekkes was three runs on one hit over 1.2 innings. He walked five and struck out two. Only 15 of his 38 pitches were strikes.

Six pitchers after Mekkes finished out the game and all of them gave up at least one run except Dillon Maples. And Maples walked two and hit one batter. He got helped out by a caught stealing. He also struck out one.

The sole highlight for Iowa in this game was a fourth-inning home run by third baseman Christopher Morel, his first Triple-A home run. Morel now has 18 home runs overall. He was 1 for 4.

Iowa had five hits in this game. Right fielder Brennen Davis went 1 for 4.

Second baseman Levi Jordan went 1 for 3 with a walk.

Iowa is off the next two days and they will start their final five-game series of the season back in Des Moines on Wednesday. They’ll be taking on the Omaha Storm Chasers.
