Tonight’s Iowa Cubs game with the Omaha Storm Chasers was suspended by rain in the middle of the third inning with the Storm Chasers leading 2-0.

A decision on if and when they finish the game has yet been made. (UPDATE: The game will not be completed. So nothing I described here will count in the statistics.)

I-Cubs starter Matt Swarmer retired the side in order in the top of the first. He gave up a leadoff double in the second, but pitched out of trouble after a walk with a double play to end the inning.

In the third inning, Swarmer gave up an RBI single to Lucius Fox. Later in the inning, Swarmer allowed Fox to score when he made an errant pickoff throw.

Right fielder Johneshwy Fargas hit a one-out double in the first inning after a walk by Brennen Davis to put runners on second and third. But Iowa failed to get either runner home.

Iowa made several transactions before tonight’s game. Shortstop Liam Spence was added from South Bend and left-handed pitcher Didier Vargas, first baseman Matt Mervis, outfielder Peter Matt and catcher Casey Opitz were added from Myrtle Beach.

Matt and Mervis started in tonight’s game. Matt struck out in his only at-bat and Mervis singled to center field in his trip to the plate.
